I hugely support Carolines 10-days-in-bed after birth advice. It was a gift to me, and to my girls Ripley and Nico.  The time I spent in bed allowed me to gently feel and see the world through my baby's eyes -  it took me into her world so that when I took her out into mine it was with an acute senstivity and awareness of how it felt for her.

Just because she had been literally part of me for 10 months didn't mean that I knew her, and by the end of that period in bed together I could understand and anticipate the slightest gesture and movement, I 'learnt' her in those precious days.  And, as fascinated and grateful as I was to be pregnant,  I was relieved to have my body 'back' after birth. My impulse would have been to rush about like a headless chicken if I hadn't heeded Caroline's advice. I would have rushed  about, and then crashed.  [insert picture???] Life changed profoundly after the birth of both my children - a subtle, but radical shift that started very quietly in our bedroom.  If I hadn't been there to sense it, hear it, feel it in those tiny movements, noises and touch of my baby perhaps I wouldn't have adapted in the fullest way that I needed to.  There  was a part of me that was wary of the change - could I do it?  And if I'd tried to jump up and carry on immediately it would have been the innocent denial of a new Mum,  when instead I waited till I was ready to go out into the world,  and to go out changed.  Those ten days allowed for another gestation,  the one from woman to Mother.  I will always be indebted to Caroline for that.

Birthwise Reviews

"The Birthwise DVD's arrived as you said last week. They are absolutely excellent, we have almost finished watching them. We were very impressed by the quality of the DVD's and will be  recommending them to friends etc. We were really disappointed and worried that we had not been offered any  antenatal classes throughout this our first pregnancy but now we both feel so much better prepared having watched the birthwise DVD's. I am a GP trainee and am married to a PE teacher and although I have a good knowledge of obstetrics through my training I've never given birth or been a mum before, so was really greatful to watch well constructed and practical advice from a decent midwife! My husband has been asking me lots of questions since watching the dvd's so he has clearly taken in alot of good info. Thankyou very much"
